Carburization Resistance Inconel 617 Rod High Temperature Strength Oxidation

Inconel 617 Rods: High-Temperature Strength and Oxidation and Carburization Resistance

    Product Overview

Inconel 617 Rods (UNS N06617/W. Nr. 2.4663a) are precision-forged, solid-solution-hardened nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum bars designed for extreme high-temperature and corrosive conditions. The alloy’s unique formulation—nominally 52 % nickel, 22 % chromium, 12.5 % cobalt, 9.5 % molybdenum, 1.0 % aluminum, and 0.3 % titanium—delivers tensile strengths above 760 MPa and yield strengths around 310 MPa after solution annealing at 982 °C, while maintaining elongation of at least 30 %. This solid-solution strengthening mechanism provides stable mechanical properties without the need for precipitation aging, ensuring consistent performance over long service lives. The high chromium and aluminum content forms a continuous chromia–alumina scale, granting superior oxidation and carburization resistance in both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres, including high-purity water and steam environments. Excellent weldability—via TIG/GTAW or electron-beam—and formability support fabrication of rods, pins, and complex shapes for gas turbines (combustor liners, transition ducts), chemical reactors (coils, agitation shafts), furnace components (radiant tubes, thermocouple sleeves), and nuclear hardware (control-rod stems, spacer pins).

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why select Inconel 617 Rods for high-temperature service?
A1: Their solid-solution strengthening maintains tensile strength and ductility up to 982 °C, plus superior oxidation and carburization resistance .

Q2: Are Inconel 617 Rods weldable without degradation?
A2: Yes—TIG/GTAW and electron-beam welding produce sound joints; solution annealing post-weld restores full mechanical and corrosion resistance .

Q3: What diameters and finishes are available?
    A3: Diameters from 3 mm to 200 mm, standard lengths to 6 m; mill-annealed, annealed & pickled, or stress-relieved per ASTM B166/B168 .
